Okay people - to understand why nationalizing health care is a bad idea all you have to do is actively listen.
Claim: You will still be able to use your current healthcare.
If you believe this then I have some oceanfront property in Arizona for sale. Private companies will never be able to compete with the government. Even if they could you must ask why the stakeholders (i.e. employers) would go with private companies when they could go with the federal government for "free".
Claim: It's free
It's not free and moreover I'm not sure there could be a worse time to consider this. We have record deficits, record deficits. Take a moment to compare what percentage of GDP other presidents have spent versus what President Obama has spent. If the debt has ever concerned you it should cause alarm now. On top of this deficit Obama now wants to add on the greatest overhaul of the Federal Government in years.
Claim: Patients make decisions, not insurance companies, and care will improve
Please. Think of the last time you visited a government office and was pleased with the process or the customer service you received. The DMV is an overused example, but lets consider it for a moment. Have you seen the signs posted that remind you of the penalty for intimidating or assaulting a government employee. Obviously, I would not endorse intimidation or assault, but when was the last time you saw such a sign in a private office building, never? Why do you think they would even be concerned with such a thing?
Listen, listen, listen and investigate.
